quote>Editors:Canada's rejection of the Il-76 waterbomber is indefensible.
When Don McIvor introduced the Martin Mars aircraft to firefighting,
he was awarded the Order of Canada.
When an international joint venture, spearheaded by Canadians, tries to
introduce the proven* IL-76 waterbomber, they get the bum's rush.
Clearly, there are more urgent proven uses for the aircraft that took Tim Horton's
doughnuts to Canadian troops to Kandahar than taking Tim Horton's doughnuts
to Canadian troops to Kandahar and the Canadian Armed Forces know it**.
Canada's further rejection of the world's most powerful firefighting weapon is
shameful and unethical.
Sincerely;
John Anderson
