On Zaslon Radar
I know I'm being nitpicky at this point, and I'm sorry but there is one more thing I'm seeing that is annoying me. I keep seeing people referring to the MiG-31's super Zaslon radar and how "Its the most powerful in the world"

This is what I mean when I say it seems a lot of people don't know what they are talking about.
So.let's compare the MiG-31's Zaslon Radar to the AWG-9 of the Original F-14, shall we?

Specs on Zaslon Radar
Type: PESA
Performance Range 200km (Operational)
Trackable target RCS 19 meters squared
Engagement Capability: 4 Targets simultaneously
Max Tracking Capability: 10
Elevation: +70/-60
Frequency Band: X/L

Specs on AWG-9
Type: Pulse Doppler w/ Full Look Down Capability
Performance Range: 740.298 (Capable) 386km (Operational)
Trackable Target RCS: 14 meters squared
Engagement Capability: 6 simultaneously
Max Tracking Capability: 24 (18 displayed after prioritizing)
Elevation: - (Full Look-Down/Up Capability)
Frequency Band: X

Now tell me again what aircraft has the most powerful and most useful Radar? Considering also more aircraft than just the F-14 in the US inventory have and continue to use this radar and its upgraded versions?

Keep in mind the new AESA Radars are more capable than either of these.

Bottom line, there are plenty of airborne radars that are more powerful and more capable than the Zaslon.

Zaslon was first phased array radar in the world. AWG-9 was a doppler-puls radar. Maybe was the most powerful in its class untill recently.

Phased array versus Doppler has no bearing on the issue. The F-14's Doppler trumps the Zaslon in every category. Hence while it may have been the strongest of its kind, it was not the most powerful fighter radar as many are claiming.

To say otherwise is like saying an AK-47 is more powerful than a World War One battleship cannon because the former is a newer technology.

AWG-9 you are talking about is upgraded version. It was build in F-14D (I think in 1989). So if we are talking about upgraded version then it is fair to consider Zaslon-M (which is in fact new radar for MiG-31M). Data about this radar cant be found because it is operational and Russians dont want to talk about most important radar in their air defense (MiG-31 is air defense interceptor).

Some indications about this radar exict from testings of R-37 missile. MiG-31M achieve kills on 300+km using this missile. So it tracked its target (drone which is much smaller then 15m2) on that distance.

:) To my knowledge there is no other missile in the world with that range (I mean in the WEST). Also, in Russia there is another prototype missile - Ks-172. It is built for shooting down AWACS planes from 400km range. I don't now anything alse about this kind of missile and new info will be apreciate.
